Yolanda Renee King Casts Her First Vote: MLK's Only Grandchild Calls It 'a Very Meaningful Day'
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King's only grandchild turned 18 in time for Election Day and finally used her own voice.

"I would say it is a very meaningful day for me. I mean, I've been waiting for this day for as long as I can remember." That was Yolanda Renee King, the only grandchild of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, telling CNN about casting her first ballot on Election Day, Nov. 3, according to theGrio.
King is 18 now, and the moment hit different given whose name she carries. Her grandfather gave his life to the fight for Black Americans' right to vote. The Breakfast Club called it "a full-circle moment" when it shared the clip Wednesday morning.
The "I Voted" sticker came early
King, the daughter of Martin Luther King III and Arndrea Waters King, said voting was drilled into her long before she could do it herself. "My parents, from a young age, taught me the importance of the vote, so they would take me to the polls," she told CNN.
She admitted she used to feel left out at those trips, so her parents would hand her the "I Just Voted" sticker anyway and she would wear it like she had done it too. "I remember being really excited to finally be of age to vote," she said.
"Now I can really put it in my voice"
This time, nobody had to pretend. "I think it's such a personal experience that now I will be able to say, yes, I was able to get my voice across through my parents and through friends who could vote before me, but now I can really put it in my voice," she said, per Hollywood Unlocked. "I'm such a hands-on person, so I always love to be part of the process. I can't believe it, and I'm so excited that this day has finally come."
Some reports say her parents went to the polls with her in Atlanta. King did not say in the clips we reviewed who or what she voted for, and this story makes no call on any race.
King has been speaking out since she was 9, when she addressed the crowd at the 2018 March for Our Lives in Washington. Now she gets a ballot to back it up.
