Chris Rock Admits Porn Habit Wrecked His Marriage: 'I Was Not a Great Husband'
In his GQ Men of the Year cover story, Rock says he quit porn five or six years ago and was 'severely humbled' after his divorce.

"I was not a great husband. I watched a lot of porn." Chris Rock did not dress it up. In his GQ Men of the Year cover story, published Nov. 3, the comedian looked back at the marriage that ended his nearly two decades with Malaak Compton-Rock and put the blame squarely on himself.
"I don't watch porn anymore. I haven't watched porn in five, six years," he added. And he made clear he is not spinning it as a flex: "It's not anything I'm proud of, but it's something I had to go through."
The Marvel movie theory
Rock explained his past the only way Chris Rock could, with a superhero bit. Every Marvel hero, he said, has to "test their powers," and in the first act they are jerks about it, racing trains and flying at the sun until they crash and realize they are not God. "I tested my powers. I definitely realized I wasn't God or anywhere near him, and I was severely humbled, as I should have been," he said, per People.
According to Complex, Rock also told GQ that the divorce is part of why 12 years passed between directing Top Five and his new film Misty Green. "Nobody has a successful divorce, so that takes time," he said, adding that once it was done he was "not sitting on the money" he had before and had to go back on tour to rebuild.
Not the first time he has said it
This is not new territory for Rock. He already put the porn habit and his cheating on stage in his 2018 Netflix special Tamborine, the set GQ brought up before he gave his answer. The difference now is the tone: no punchline, just a 61-year-old man owning it.
Rock and Compton-Rock split in 2014 and finalized their divorce in 2016. They share two daughters, Lola and Zahra. Rock has said in the past he will not joke about his ex-wife because "I have a mic, she doesn't." Compton-Rock had not publicly responded to the new interview as of this writing.
The quote took off online after Daily Loud clipped it, and the reaction has been split between fans praising him for being honest and others asking why it took a magazine cover to say it.
